The Azores Brand, under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food, is participating in the Foiling Week event, which runs until June 30 at Lake Garda in Malcesine, Italy.

The Region's participation in this event came about through an invitation from the organisation which, on a visit to the island of Pico, was fascinated by the whaling culture.

Young promoters of the whaling culture of Pico Island are taking part in the event. They will show the legacy of this activity, which has marked the regional economy for several decades. A whaling boat will be on display during the event.

This event, the world's first and only dedicated to high-speed sailing boats, their sailors, designers and manufacturers, is now in its 11th edition. It features the participation of more than 1,450 athletes and thousands of guests from various countries, with several races and parallel events such as lectures and workshops.

Given the importance of whaling culture at this event, together with its international target audience, the Azores Brand Management and Promotion Office, in partnership with Mercearia Criativa - an establishment associated with the Azores Brand - is promoting an exhibition of some of the Region's iconic products, with special emphasis on those from Pico Island.

Foiling Week is sponsored by the International Sailing Federation, a member of the Olympic Committee.

There are currently more than 6,200 Azores Brand seals in a universe of about 300 companies, with more than 90 % being food products.

Over the years, the Azores Brand Management and Promotion Office has been keen to take part in events aimed at specific audiences, such as Foiling Week.

With this initiative, the Azores Brand is working to promote the archipelago as a destination to an important market, Italy.
