The Angra do Heroísmo Museum and the Horta Museum were distinguished today with awards from APOM - the Portuguese Museology Association.

The Angra do Heroísmo Museum received the award in the "Incorporation" category, with the "Vergílio Schneider Room," through the storage of the collection, and an honourable mention in the "Partner" category, with the "Reading Minimarathon" project.

In turn, the Horta Museum received an honourable mention in the "Safeguarding, Conservation and Restoration" category for its "Roda do Leme -  From the Sea to the Museum" project.

For the Regional Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport, Sofia Ribeiro, these distinctions "are incentives to regional museums for the work they have done and could further do."

"We are known for our natural potential. Nevertheless, promoting culture is a priority for the Regional Government, and this is done in partnership with our museums," she said at the awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony took place at the Porto Customs House.

On the occasion, the Director of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, Jorge Paulus Bruno, was honoured with the award for professional merit in the field of museology.

Vitec Azores TV was also distinguished with the "journalism" award and Vergílio Schneider was honoured with the "collector" award.

The Portuguese Museology Association (APOM) has been organising the APOM Awards ceremony since 1997 to distinguish museums, projects, professionals and activities in the sector.
