Presidência do Governo Regional

The Presidency of the Regional Government hosts a piano recital by Constantin Sandum this Saturday at 6 pm at the Sant'Ana Palace in Ponta Delgada, an event promoted by the Ponta Delgada Regional Conservatory.

The programme includes works by Cláudio Carneyro (1895-1963), Armando José Fernandes (1906-1983) and Luiz Costa (1879-1960).

Constantin Sandu's interpretative art developed under the influence of his Romanian masters - Sonia Ratescu, Constantin Nitu and Constantin Ionescu-Vovu - and several other notable artists, such as Sequeira Costa, Dimitri Bashkirov, Helena Sá e Costa and Tânia Achot.

His distinctive artistic personality blends rigour and respect for the musical text with poetic sensitivity and captivating sound imagination. Since his debut with the orchestra at 14, he has pursued an intense concert activity spanning four decades. He has performed hundreds of concerts in various European and Asian countries, receiving praise from audiences and specialised critics. He is the recipient of several prizes in international competitions.

He has recorded several solo discs (Beethoven; Albéniz and Gershwin; Portuguese and Romanian piano music) as a soloist with the Raízes Ibéricas Orchestra (Mozart and A. J. Fernandes Concerts) and has performed with other chamber music groups.

In 2006, he received his doctorate in music from the National University of Music in Bucharest, with the thesis "Portuguese music for piano." He has lived in Portugal since 1991 and teaches piano at the Porto School of Music, Arts and Performance, where he coordinates the Piano Department.

Admission is free. Tickets can be collected at the palace's entrance gate between 10 am and 4 pm, or immediately before the concert.
