The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, chaired the delivery of six new electric vehicles to social institutions this Tuesday, as part of the Generations in Movement (GERMOV) programme.

Accompanied by the Regional Director for Social Solidarity, Andreia Vasconcelos, the event, held at Nonagon in Lagoa, was also attended by representatives of Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), who received the vehicles.

The Nossa Senhora da Oliveira Social and Parish Centre, the Portuguese Association for Developmental Disorders and Autism - Azores (APPDA-Açores), the Casa do Povo de Santo António, Cáritas de São Miguel, Casa do Povo de Fenais da Ajuda and the Atalhada Social and Cultural Centre were the recipients of these new vehicles.

"The Regional Government will continue to support these institutions, recognising their significant value for the most vulnerable members of our society," stressed Mónica Seidi, who will be responsible for Social Security in this legislative term.

"The Regional Government is demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that institutions like the ones here will continue to be supported and that successful solidarity programmes will continue to exist," she continued.

Each of these entities will use the equipment provided according to their social needs, whether it be transporting users between their homes and day centres or even the Home Support Service, for therapeutic activities or other activities appropriate to their condition and age group, as these institutions support the elderly, children and people with disabilities, young people and homeless people.

"This is also one of the moments when we move towards one of the goals of this Government, being in line with the ecological concerns of the European Union," she said.

GERMOV intends to strengthen the Regional Government's support for IPSS, Misericórdias (charities) and similar organisations, which make up the social solidarity network of the Autonomous Region of the Azores and contribute to greater social cohesion and inclusion of the different groups.
