The Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, met with AICOPA -Azores Building Industry and Public Works Association to assess the procedures to be launched for the renovation and construction of new houses in the Region under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

The meeting, held in Ponta Delgada, was attended by the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors of AICOPA, Alexandra Bragança and José António Pacheco, respectively, and the Regional Director for Housing, Daniel Pavão. On the occasion, the Regional Secretary reiterated her willingness to consolidate "increasingly effective cooperation" so that RRP investment in housing can continue to reach Azorean families.

"The Region is entering a decisive phase in the implementation of the RRP for housing," she said as she left the meeting, announcing the awarding of the works contract for the construction of 33 houses shortly and tenders will be launched for the construction of another 122 homes. For this reason "it is important for AICOPA to mobilise its members to take part in these and other tenders."

Furthermore, the commitment to organise new forms of cooperation in providing technical support for small contractors during tender procedures was also discussed.

According to data published on the Transparency Portal, the Region has already implemented 28.72% of the RRP investment, which is higher than the national figure standing at 13.78%.

Between 2021 and 2023, 43.4 million Euros were invested in housing support, benefiting more than 9,400 Azorean families, through measures for the acquisition and construction of housing; rehousing through acquisition/construction and subleasing; lease incentives; urban regeneration and renovation, and the renovation of the Region's housing stock.
