Offering words of encouragement to the new mayor, Catarina Manito, the President of the Government expressed his "personal and institutional" confidence in her to take on the challenges that this municipality on Pico Island is facing.
Reiterating the importance of "local power" as a partner in the development of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro extolled the ability of Madalena to attract people in recent years.
"I want to make a commitment to you for the future," he added in the presence of several guests, emphasising the role of areas such as education in the development of the municipality and the Azores.
This year, the youngest municipality on the island of Pico celebrated its 301st anniversary as a town.
The event was marked with the traditional Mass celebration and social dinner, which was attended by various organisations in the municipality.
