Presidência do Governo Regional
The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, received General Eduardo Ferrão, Chief of General Staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces (CEME), at an audience today and was later decorated during the Azores Military Zone Day celebrations.
During the audience, held at the Sant'Ana Palace, the President expressed his gratitude to the Army, on behalf of the Azoreans, for the "spirit of mission" with which it "has established its presence in the Azores."
Recalling the recent intervention on São Jorge Island, during the seismovolcanic crisis, or the installation of a field hospital on Corvo Island, José Manuel Bolieiro offered words of "appreciation and gratitude" for the work of these professionals.
In the case of Corvo, the expectation is that the military will be able to spend Christmas at home, as equipment will soon be transferred to the island's renovated health centre, thus resuming normal health activity at this unit.
Later, at the Fort of São Brás, the President of the Government was awarded the D. Afonso Henriques Medal - Army Merit, 1st class, having attended the ceremony celebrating the Azores Military Zone Day.
