The Regional Secretariat for Health and Sport, through the Regional Directorate for Prevention and Control of Dependencies, launched today an awareness-raising campaign on alcohol consumption aimed at adults in the context of the festive period that is about to begin.

The campaign is made up of short videos created for social networks and also includes stickers and flyers, all designed to raise public awareness of the need to reduce alcohol consumption, particularly during this festive season.

"This is a job that requires the collaboration of various departments outside the Government, from local authorities to police forces and firefighters. Despite being an across-the-board issue, it is important to tailor this message to the target audience, as the specific features of each segment of the population make it important to pinpoint the best type of approach," emphasised Mónica Seidi, the Regional Secretary for Health.

The Autonomous Region of the Azores "has challenges to face in this area," she continued, thanking "the Regional Directorate for Prevention and Control of Dependencies for the work done."

She continued: "We are well aware of the challenges we are facing and it is commendable to bring up this issue at a time when this has a direct impact on our traditions."

The launch session of this campaign also covered other matters such as the legal age for alcohol consumption, particularly because it disrupts the healthy development of young people, responsible consumption of alcohol, the awareness that there is no consumption without consequences and even the fact that alcohol is a depressant substance.

The Regional Secretary ended the session by reiterating the fact that "the journey must continue because this is a job that is never finished" yet "it can never be done lightly."
