Azorean products represented at 11th International Tourism Forum in Gran Canaria

The Autonomous Region of the Azores showcased its regional products at the 11th International Maspalomas Costa Canaria Tourism Forum that took place on November 23 and 24 on the island of Gran Canaria.
At the invitation of the Canary Islands Association for the Progress of Macaronesia, the Region had the opportunity to take part in the "Gastroforum," where there were exhibitions of products from the Azores, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde as well as various demonstrations and tastings of certain products.
The IAMA - Institute for Food and Agricultural Markets stand, represented at the event by Beatriz Medeiros, featured São Jorge PDO cheese and Ilha Velho cheese from São Miguel and Milhafre dos Açores cheese, in addition to other typical products such as pineapple, honey, Santa Catarina canned tuna, Pico wine, salted pepper, safflower, yeast cakes and tea.
The event also included a showcooking session of regional products, where António Bezerra, a senior technician from the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development and gourmand, prepared sautéed lily on sweet potato puree with lime and mustard sprouts, highlighting Azorean fish and regional sweet potato. He also prepared Azorean steak tartar with yeast cake, giving particular emphasis, in addition to the PGI meat, to the São Miguel pepper and pickled rock samphire.
The International Maspalomas Costa Canaria Tourism brings together hundreds of tourism experts and professionals every year to Gran Canaria's main tourist town. It is a joint organisation of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council, the Gran Canaria Island Council and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, through the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism Management.
