The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, visited today the Antero de Quental Secondary School in Ponta Delgada, where he held a working meeting with the School Board and assured them that a "significant expansion" will be carried out at the school.
"This school needs to undergo an expansion. It will be significantly expanded to optimise the available space and, from a heritage perspective, there will be a major intervention to maintain, preserve and enhance the heritage of the Fonte Bela Palace," he said.
José Manuel Bolieiro was at the school this morning accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Education, Sofia Ribeiro, and the Regional Secretary for Infrastructures, Berta Cabral.
The meeting with the School Board of Antero de Quental Secondary School and the President of the Government was aimed at presenting strategies for the expansion of the school.
"We are estimating an expansion for an additional 30 to 40 classrooms," noted José Manuel Bolieiro, who confirmed the Government's willingness to receive input from those responsible for the Antero de Quental school.
It is intended that the project, planned to the north and on the west side of the building, will be completed by 2024. The respective public procurement procedures will be launched in the same year.
"We are not doing the work on the basis of the estimated value, but rather we are designing according to the needs and qualifications of a school of reference," which currently has about 1,300 students, stressed the President of the Government.
José Manuel Bolieiro also pointed out that nearly a million Euros had already been invested in Antero de Quental School during this parliamentary term in the refurbishment of classrooms and upgrading of equipment. Today, however, we defined a "medium-term plan for the expansion of the school."
"I was able to note the willingness and critical thinking of this School Board," he said.
