The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency, Pedro de Faria e Castro, presented today in Ponta Delgada the European citizenship project "My Europe," an educational initiative aimed at 4th-grade students in all Azorean municipalities.

According to Pedro de Faria e Castro, the initiative aims, above all, to talk about the European Union and the Azores in a "simple manner using uncomplicated language," so as to arouse students' interest in the values of the union of 27 Member States.

"We want to help them understand the decisive importance of the European Union in our daily lives, showing that this community project is something that is close to us," he emphasised.

The information included in this initiative is made available to students in the book "My Europe," where they can learn about the European Union's symbols and countries, along with other outermost regions and the Euro as their currency.

As Pedro de Faria e Castro announced, senior technicians from the Presidency of the Government will be organising the interactive sessions in regional schools from tomorrow until March 2024, starting with the schools in Sete Cidades and Ginetes on the island of São Miguel.

With 63 sessions planned throughout the archipelago, the "My Europe" initiative will travel to "every municipality in the Region," the Regional Under Secretary confirmed, indicating that it will cover both public and public schools.

In addition to the presentation of the book "My Europe," there will be interactive games with the students, based on concepts such as "democracy, the European Union of values and the importance of civic participation," explained Pedro de Faria e Castro.

These activities will involve around 2,300 students from across the Region. They will have the opportunity to take part in exercises ranging from geography to mathematics, from drawing to history, among other areas that appeal to the reasoning and creativity of children.
