The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, signed the order to award the construction of the Vila do Porto Bypass on the island of Santa Maria.

An investment of €5,320,481.83 (five million, three hundred twenty thousand, four hundred eighty-one Euros and eighty-three cents), plus VAT at the legal rate in force, the works contract was awarded, after a public tender, to the company Marques Lda.

The works have a completion period of 540 days, after the official awarding of the works contract.

According to the government official, this is "an infrastructure that will open up the municipality's horizons and will pave the way for the establishment of several economic activities."

Stretching about two kilometres long, with urban features, the construction of the new bypass includes earthworks, installation of drainage systems, paving and ancillary works, installation of public lighting and placement of road signage.

This is one of the ten bypasses that the Government of the Azores intends to build, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) for the construction of road on the islands of Terceira, Santa Maria, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial and São Miguel.
