Pedro de Faria e Castro welcomed Chair of the RAEGE Executive Committee - Communication

The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency, Pedro de Faria e Castro, received in audience the Deputy Director of the National Geographic Institute of Spain, José Antonio López, who visited Ponta Delgada as Chair of the RAEGE Executive Committee.

Matters pertaining to the project that maintains an important geodesic station operating on Santa Maria Island and envisages the development of another station on Flores Island were under discussion at the meeting. In Spain, a station is also operating within the same network in Yebes and another, under development, will be located in the Canary Islands.

This partnership is based on a memorandum of understanding signed in 2010 between the Regional Government and the National Geographic Institute of Spain, which provides for the installation of these stations. Both parties acknowledged their commitment at this meeting.

It should be noted that the Regional Government presented last December the final version of the Azores Strategy for Space, with scientific development as one of its strategic axes, which includes this partnership.
