Regional Government joins new European project promoting testing of innovative electric mobility solutions
Secretaria Regional do Turismo, Mobilidade e Infraestruturas
The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, through the Regional Directorate for Energy, is part of the consortium of a European project which, involving several international partners, is focused on the use of innovative technologies in the area of electric mobility.
The "Electric Vehicles Management for carbon neutrality in Europe" project (EV4EU) is fully funded by the Horizon Europe programme, with a total budget of 8.9 million Euros. It will run for about four years.
The EV4EU kick-off meeting took place this week in Brussels and was attended by the Regional Director for Energy, Joana Ferreira Rita. On the occasion, she stated that "this project is of strategic relevance to the Azores, as it promotes increased sustainability in energy consumption, which should evolve to become increasingly based on renewable energy sources."
Under this project, 16 partners from Portugal, Slovenia, Denmark and Greece join efforts, with the support of 6 other international institutions, in order to contribute, through electric mobility, to the carbon neutrality goals defined for 2050.
This project is mainly intended to test the Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, aiming to create more attractive conditions for electric vehicle users.
In the specific case of the tests to take place on the island of São Miguel, the energy from the batteries of electric vehicles will be integrated into buildings during periods when electricity is more expensive. Therefore, it will be possible to assess the impact of this technology in reducing energy bills.
The Government of the Azores, the Regional Directorate for Energy, is involved in several innovative European projects that have led to the testing of new technologies and sustainable development models based on energy, promoting the exchange of knowledge across borders and the integrated evolution of the sector.
