location Velas

Secretaria Regional da Saúde e Desporto

Between 12 a.m. and 10 a.m. today, 42 seismic events were recorded. Most of the earthquakes recorded so far are of low magnitude and show a tectonic origin.

No significant variations were registered in the geochemical components of gases and crustal deformation.

As part of the fieldwork, CIVISA - Centre for Information and Seismovolcanic Surveillance of the Azores will have another two measuring stations, with one installed yesterday and another to be installed today.

The Azores Operational Command (COA), through the Navy, has completed the reconnaissance mission in the identified serviceable ports, which may become evacuation points. The armed forces now have a contingent of 55 soldiers on the island of São Jorge. The COA maintains its state of readiness and will continue its activity with civil protection services, including a health team.

From March 19 to date, 28,251 earthquakes have been registered, with 240 felt by the population.

Today’s briefing was attended by the Regional Secretary for Public Works and Communications, Ana Carvalho.
