Azores Participatory Budget with 30 winning projects

The announcement ceremony of the winning projects of the fourth edition of the Azores Participatory Budget (OP Açores) took place virtually on Thursday afternoon.

On the occasion, the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, congratulated all the Azoreans, as well as the promoters of the winning proposals, who submitted ideas, and the more than twelve thousand people who, with 13 thousand votes, chose the 30 projects to be implemented by the Regional Government in the following areas: Youth (eight), Culture (six), Science (five), Social Inclusion (four), Environment (three), Tourism (two), Agriculture (one), and Sea and Fisheries (one).

Regarding each island, and as a result of the additional funding decided by the Regional Government, one proposal will be implemented in Santa Maria, six in São Miguel, five in Terceira, two in Graciosa, two in São Jorge, two in Pico, one in Faial, four in Flores and four in Corvo, representing an overall investment of about 1.2 million Euros.

The most voted proposal in Santa Maria is the "Construction of a Pedestrian Pathway on Avenida de São Miguel," presented by Ezequiel Araújo, with an allocation of 41,600.00 Euros.

In São Miguel, the winning ideas are “Restauro dos Pianos Steinway do ConsIn São Miguel, the winning ideas are as follows: "Restoration of the Steinway Pianos of the Regional Conservatory of Ponta Delgada" by Maria Isabel Sousa, with an allocation of 90,000.00 Euros, "Preparing the Auditorium/School for the future" by Érica Macedo, with an allocation 66,600.00 Euros, "enSOMBRARTE" by Maria da Graça Ponte, with an allocation of 19. 500.00 Euros, " Innovative Educational Environment - FCL" by Nuno Gaudêncio, with an allocation of 65,000.00 Euros, "Museum in Movement" by Pedro de Melo, with an allocation of 50,000.00 Euros, "Cycling Network of Ponta Delgada" by Tiago Teixeira, with an allocation of 159,840.00 Euros.

In Terceira, the winning proposals are as follows: 
"A school with a past, a classroom for the future" by Nuno Azevedo, with a budget of 65,000.00 Euros, "Redevelopment of the banks of Ribeira do Testo stream" by Guilherme Melo, with a budget of 30,000.00 Euros, "Sharing, because caring is loving" by Ana Fernanda Homem, with a budget of 10,000.00 Euros, "Placing of Tourist and Cultural Signs in the Town of Lajes" by João Pedro Costa, with a budget of 70,000.00 Euros, and "We invite you to sit down..." by Maria Francisca Dinis, with a budget of 35,600.00 Euros.

In Graciosa, the winning proposals were "Graciosa 4 U" by Mónica Sousa, with an allocation of 38,400.00 Euros, and "GraceSports" by Simão Melo, with an allocation of 9,600.00 Euros.

The most voted ideas in São Jorge were "School Fitness" by Pedro Pires, with a budget of 15,400.00 Euros and "Itinerant Books - From Topo to Rosais" by Rui Moreira and Francisca Leonardes, with a budget of 61,600.00 Euros.

In Pico, the winning proposals were "Calm Space" by Tiago Melo, with an allocation of 21,000.00 Euros, and " Smart Public Electric Bicycles on the island of Pico" by Ivo Sousa, with an allocation of 84,000.00 Euros.

"Forest Park" by Lídia Silva, with a budget of 64,000.00 Euros, is the winning proposal in Faial.

In Flores, the winning ideas are the following: "Artist Residency" by Sónia Ribeiro, with allocation of 30,500.00 Euros, " Reagents from Flores: Remodelling and modernisation of the Biology and Geology teaching laboratories" by Marlene Costa and Jânia Vieira, with an allocation of 6,000.00 Euros, "3D Flowers" by Jéssica Amaral, with an allocation of 22,000.00 Euros, and "Put yourself in movement" by André Martins, with an allocation of 11,200.00 Euros.

In Corvo, the winning proposals were "Accessible Corvo" by Patrícia Castanheira, with a budget of 9,000.00 Euros, "Walking around Corvo" by Raquel Valadão, with a budget of 4,000.00 Euros, "TEC - CORVO" by Tânia Coelho, with a budget of 16,000.00 Euros and "Corvo in movement" by Catarina Emílio and Leonardo Costa, with a budget of 6,200.00 Euros.

In addition to the 27 winning proposals at an island level, three proposals were selected at a regional level. They are as follows: "Safety First" by Adriana Benevides, with an allocation of 20,000.00 Euros, "Playing is for everyone" by Luciana Silva, with an allocation of 240,000.00 Euros, and "Tender 'Zero Waste in the Azores Sea' - Collection of Marine Litter by the Commercial Fishing Fleet" by Pedro Magalhães, with an allocation of 11,280.00 Euros. All proposals will be implemented on the nine islands of the Azores, corresponding to an overall investment of more than 270,000.00 Euros.
