Last 24 hours: 

11 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed, with 10 on the island of São Miguel and one on the island of Santa Maria, following 869 tests carried out in contracted laboratories and two in non-contracted laboratories.   

On the island of São Miguel, seven of the new cases were registered in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, two in the municipality of Ribeira Grande and one in the municipality of Lagoa. Three of these new cases are travellers, one resident, who tested positive upon arrival. The other two cases concern non-residents who were tested after presenting symptoms. The rest are related to community transmission.

The new positive case, registered in Santa Maria, remains to be assessed.

Hospitalisations: 

As of today, there are six patients hospitalised, all at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, none in intensive care unit.

Local transmission chains: 

Due to the death of the last element of the local transmission chain identified on the island of Faial, it has been extinguished. As of today, there are no active local transmission chains in the Azores.  

Recoveries: 

16 recoveries were registered in the archipelago, all on the island of São Miguel, 12 in the municipality of Ponta Delgada and four in the municipality of Ribeira Grande.

Death: 

In the last 24 hours, on the island of Faial, it was registered the death of a woman who was admitted at the Horta Hospital. She was 66 years old and was resident in the parish of Ribeirinha.

Current situation: 

The archipelago currently registers 146 positive active cases:134 on the island of São Miguel, six on the island of Terceira, three on the island of Pico, two on the island of Faial and one on the island of Santa Maria.   

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 9,179 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, of which 8,806 recovered from the disease. There were 44 deaths, 95 people who left the archipelago and 88 cases with history of previous cure.  

From December 31, 2020 to October 11, 173,743 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (73,4 per cent) and 192,750 with complete vaccination (81,4 per cent), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
