11 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores, with one on the island of São Miguel, seven on the island of Pico, and three on the island of Terceira, arising from 766 tests carried out in reference laboratories and one in a non-contracted laboratory.

On Pico, seven new elements became part of the pre-existent chain on the island.
On Terceira, two resident travellers tested positive, one in screening on arrival and another in screening pursuant to symptomatology. There is still one case to be appraised who tested positive in screening pursuant to symptomatology.
On São Miguel, the positive case is a non-resident traveller with positive screening on arrival.
Hospitalizations:
As of today, three patients are hospitalized, all in Divino Espírito Santo Hospital, in Ponta Delgada, with one in Intensive Care Unit.
Local transmission chains:
The active primary local transmission chain in Terceira island and the other one shared between Pico and São Miguel islands were extinct pursuant to the recovery of the last positive cases which were part of them.
As of today, there are four active primary local transmission chains in the archipelago: two on Terceira, one on São Jorge, and one on Pico. To date, 237 have been extinguished. There are 271 people under active surveillance.

Current situation:
One of the cases recorded yesterday with previous flight connection to outside the region, who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on arrival, has provided documentation demonstrating a previous infection and the respective recovery and is not considered an active case in the region.
Currently, there are 114 active positive cases in the archipelago, with 87 on São Miguel island, 14 on Terceira island, nine on Pico island, three on São Jorge island, and one on Faial island.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,747 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, 8,422 people have recovered from the disease, 42 died, 94 left the archipelago and 75 provided evidence of previous cure. To date, 683,127 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease.
From 31 December 2020 to 6 September, 170,146 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (71,9 per cent) and 177,122 with complete vaccination (74,8 per cent), within the Regional Vaccination Plan.
