Five new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores, with three on the island of São Miguel, and two on the island of Pico, arising from 338 tests carried out in reference laboratories.
From the three new cases on São Miguel island, two are non-resident travellers, one of which with positive screening on arrival and the other one with screening pursuant to symptomatology, and the third case was diagnosed in context of community transmission.
On Pico island, the two new positive cases belong to a new primary local transmission chain in Madalena whose origin of contagion is still to be appraised.

Hospitalizations:
As of today, five patients are hospitalized, all in Divino Espírito Santo Hospital, in Ponta Delgada, with two in Intensive Care Unit.
Local transmission chains:
As of today, there are six active primary local transmission chains in the archipelago: three on Terceira, one on São Jorge, one on Pico, and one shared between Pico and São Miguel. To date, 237 have been extinguished. There are 361 people under active surveillance.

Currently, there are 136 active positive cases in the archipelago, with 113 on São Miguel island, 16 on Terceira island, one on Faial island, three on São Jorge island, two on Pico island, and one on Graciosa island.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,736 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, 8,390 people have recovered from the disease, 42 died, 94 left the archipelago and 74 provided evidence of previous cure. To date, 682,361 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease.
From 31 December 2020 to 30 August, 166,966 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (70,6 per cent) and 171,510 with complete vaccination (72,5 per cent), within the Regional Vaccination Plan.
