14 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores, with 11 on the island of São Miguel, two on the island of São Jorge and one on the island of Terceira, following 526 tests carried out in the reference laboratories.

On the island of São Miguel 10 cases are related to the context of community transmission and one concerns a traveller. On the island of Terceira, the diagnosed case remains to be assessed. On the island of São Jorge, the two diagnosed cases resulted in a new primary local transmission chain.
Hospitalisations:
As of today, 10 patients are hospitalised, all at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, with three in Intensive Care Unit.
Local transmission chains:
In the last 24 hours a primary local transmission chain in Terceira was extinguished and a new one was identified in Velas de São Jorge. Eight primary local transmission chains are now active in the archipelago: three on the island of Terceira, one on the island of Graciosa, one on the island of Faial, one shared between the islands of Pico and São Miguel, one shared between the islands of Faial and São Jorge and one on the island of São Jorge. To date, 232 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 727 people under active surveillance today.

Current situation:
The archipelago currently registers 248 positive active cases: 215 on the island of São Miguel, 17 on the island of Terceira, five on the island of Faial, four on the island of Pico, four on the island of São Jorge and three on the island of Graciosa.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,681 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 8,224 people recovered from the disease. There were 41 deaths, 94 people who left the archipelago and 74 cases with history of previous cure. To date, 677,412 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19 disease.
Vaccination:
From 31 December 2020 to 26 August, 163,227 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (69,0 per cent) and 167,079 with complete vaccination (70,6 per cent), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
