18 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, following 943 analyses carried out in the reference laboratories of the Regiom.

On the island of São Miguel, all cases are related to community transmission. The positive case identified on the Island of Pico is still to be assessed. On the island of Terceira, one traveller, non-resident, tested positive, after his wife, also a traveller, having tested positive. The rest of the cases are related to community transmission.
Hospitalisations:
As of today, 15 patients are hospitalised, all at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, with four in Intensive Care Unit
Local transmission chains:
Four primary local transmission chains are active in the archipelago: two on the island of Graciosa, one on the island of Faial and one shared between the islands of Faial and São Jorge. To date, 229 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 684 people under active surveillance today.
Current situation
The archipelago currently registers 349 positive active cases: 302 on the island of São Miguel, 15 on the island of Terceira, 13 on the island of Graciosa, 10 on the island of Faial, five on the island of Santa Maria, three on the island of São Jorge and one on the island of Pico.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,603 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 8,049 people have recovered from the disease. There were 41 deaths, 92 people who left the archipelago and 72 cases with history of previous cure. To date, 673,819 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19 disease.
From 31 December 2020 to 23 August, 162,911 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (68,8 per cent) and 159,779 with complete vaccination (67,5 per cent), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
