60 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, with 54 on the island of São Miguel, five on the island of São Jorge, and one on the island of Pico, arising from 1,017 tests carried out  in reference laboratories of the region and one in a private non-contracted laboratory.
On São Miguel, all the cases correspond to community transmission. By municipalities: 16 new cases were recorded in Lagoa, 24 in Ponta Delgada, seven in Ribeira Grande, four in Povoação, and three in  Vila Franca do Campo.
On São Jorge, two of the five cases recorded in the last 24 hours are to be appraised and three are connected to previous chains. Thus, three cases were recorded in the municipality of Velas, and two in the municipality of Calheta.
On Pico, one new case was recorded in the civil parish of Ribeiras, municipality of Lajes, which is connected to one of the active chains on the island (See Annex 1 - table for positives in the whole archipelago).
Also in the past 24 hours, 17 recoveries  were recorded, with nine on São Miguel island , three on Terceira island , two on Pico island, two on Fail island, and one on Santa Maria island (See Annex 2 - table for recoveries in the whole archipelago).
As of today, 11 patients are hospitalised in the hospitals of the Azores: eight in Divino Espírito Santo Hospital, in Ponta Delgada, (with two in Intensive Care Unit), and three in Santo Espírito Hospital, in Angra do Heroísmo, (one in Intensive Care Unit).
One of the cases recorded yesterday on the island of Pico, with previous flight connection to outside the region, who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on arrival, has provided documentation demonstrating a previous infection and the respective recovery and is not considered an active case.
Currently, there are 561 active positive cases the archipelago, with 471 on São Miguel island, 49 on Terceira island, 22 on Faial island,  13 on São Jorge island, three  on Pico island, and three on Santa Maria island.
In terms of primary local transmission chains, one was extinguished on Santa Maria in the last 24 hours, pursuant to the recovery of one positive case. There are six active primary local transmission chains: two on the island of Pico, two on the island of São Jorge, one on the island of Santa Maria, and one shared between Faial and São Jorge islands. To date, 224 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 1,574 people under active surveillance today.  
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,261 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, 7,504 people have recovered from the disease, 38 died, 89 left the archipelago and 69 provided evidence of previous cure. 
To date, 662,547 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 disease.
From 31 December 2020 to 9 August, 155,446 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (67,5 per cent) and 145,691 with complete vaccination (61,6 per cent), within the Regional Vaccination Plan.
