48 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, with 41 on São Miguel island, five on São Jorge island, one on the island of Terceira, and one on Faial island, arising from 1,593 tests carried out  in reference laboratories of the region.
On the island of São Miguel, all the cases correspond to community transmission. By municipalities: four new cases were recorded in Lagoa, 19 in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, eight in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, three in the municipality of Povoação, and seven in the municipality of Ribeira Grande. 
On the island of São Jorge, there is a new case to be appraised and other four new cases are connected to the primary local transmission chain previously identified. During the course of epidemiological research, the connection between positive cases on São Jorge island and elements of the local transmission chain in the municipality of Horta, on Faial island, was determined. Thus, this chain is now shared by the islands of São Jorge and Faial.
On the island of Terceira, the case diagnosed now in the civil parish of São Pedro, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, is result of community transmission.
On the island of Faial, there is a new case in Feteira, connected to the pre-existent chain in Horta (See Annex 1 - table for positives in the whole archipelago).
Also in the past 24 hours, 58 recoveries  were recorded, with 41 on the island of São Miguel , nine on the island of Terceira, four on the island of Santa Maria, two on the island of Pico, one on the island of São Jorge, and one on the island of Faial (See Annex 2 - table for recoveries in the whole archipelago).
As of today, 13 patients are hospitalised: nine in Divino Espírito Santo Hospital, in Ponta Delgada, (one of which in ICU), and four in Santo Espírito Hospital, in Angra do Heroísmo (one of which in ICU).
During the course of epidemiological research, one positive case firstly located in the civil parish of Fajã de Cima, municipality of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, turned out to be residing in the civil parish of Rabo de Peixe, municipality of Ribeira Grande. This data change is shown in the attached table.
One positive case identified in the municipality of Ponta Delgada has proved to be a false positive after due verification and, for that reason, is no longer among the active cases. 
Currently, there are 533 active positive cases the archipelago, with 427 on São Miguel island, 65 on Terceira island, 24 on Faial island,  nine on São Jorge island, four  on Santa Maria island, and four on Pico island.
There are seven active primary local transmission chains: two on Pico island, two on São Jorge island, two on Santa Maria island, and one now shared by Pico and  Faial. To date, 223 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 1,552 people under active surveillance today.  
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,169 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, 7,441 people have recovered from the disease, 38 died, 89 left the archipelago and 68 provided evidence of previous cure. 
To date, 660,662 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 disease. 
From 31 December 2020 to 9 August, 155,446 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (67,5 per cent) and 145,691 with complete vaccination (61,6 per cent), within the Regional Vaccination Plan.
