71 new positive cases of covid-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, one on the island of Graciosa, one on the island of São Jorge, two on the island of Flores, five on the island of Pico, 30 on the island of Terceira and 32 on the island of São Miguel, following 2,406 analyses carried out in the reference laboratories of the Region.

On the island of Graciosa, a new positive case in Santa Cruz was diagnosed within work context, and is yet to be assessed.

On the island of São Jorge, a new case was diagnosed in Velas, due to the presence of symptoms.

There are two new cases on the island of Flores, one concerning a non-resident traveller in Fajãzinha, municipality of Lajes, who tested positive on the 6th day. Another positive case, in Santa Cruz, resulted in a primary local transmission chain shared between Santa Cruz das Flores and Madalena do Pico.

On the island of Pico, two new positive cases that have now been diagnosed are part of the previous primary local transmission chain in the municipality of Lajes. One of the new cases has originated a new primary local transmission chain also in the municipality of Lajes. Two cases concern two travellers, one non-resident, who tested positive upon arrival and the other a resident, who tested positive on the 6th day in Madalena and São Roque respectively.

On the island of Terceira, four of the new cases concern travellers who tested positive on the 6th day, one non-resident and three residents. The remaining cases are related to the active chains. Thus, there are 16 new cases in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo and 14 new cases were registered in the municipality of Praia da Vitoria.

On the island of São Miguel, two of the new cases concern travellers, one non-resident who tested positive upon arrival and the other a resident, who tested positive on the 6th day. Thus, in the municipality of Lagoa there is one new case, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada 18 new cases were registered and in the municipality of Ribeira Grande there are 13 new cases. Also in the last 24 hours, 19 recoveries were registered (For detailed information on all recoveries in the archipelago please check the table Annex 2 at the end).

As of today, 17 patients are hospitalised, with 12 at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada (with one in UCI), four at the Santo Espírito Hospital of Terceira Island (two of them evacuated from the parish of Manadas, island of São Jorge) and one at the Horta Hospital.

One of the cases reported previously in the parish of Rabo de Peixe, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, submitted documentation demonstrating a previous infection and recovery, and is not considered an active case.

The archipelago currently has 495 active positive cases: 308 on the island of São Miguel, 151 on the island of Terceira, 13 on the island of Pico, eight on the island of São Jorge, six on the island of Faial, seven on the island of Flores and two on the island of Graciosa. 11 primary local transmission chains are now active in the archipelago, with six on the island of Terceira, one on the island of São Jorge, one on the island of Faial, one on the island of Pico, one between the islands of Pico and Flores and one between the islands of São Miguel and Flores. To date, 209 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 742 people under active surveillance today.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 7,233 positive cases of covid-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 6,556 people recovered from the disease. There were 35 deaths, 85 people who left the archipelago and 62 cases with history of previous cure. To date, 623,548 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2, which causes covid-19 disease.

From last 31 December 2020 until July 8, 250,705 doses of covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the Azores, with 129.190 people who received the first dose (53.21 % of the population) and 121.515 people with complete vaccination (50.05 %), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
