49 new positive cases of covid-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, with 25 on the island of Terceira, 20 on the island of São Miguel, two on the island of Faial and two on the island of Pico, following 2,237 tests carried out in the reference laboratories of the Region and one in a private non-contracted laboratory.
On the island of Terceira, 21 of the new cases are related to previous primary local transmission chains, three cases remain to be assessed and one is a traveller, who tested positive on the 6th day. Thus, there are 13 new cases in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo and 12 new cases were registered in the municipality of Praia da Vitoria.
On the island of São Miguel, one of the new cases is a non-resident traveller who tested positive on the 6th day. The other cases are related to community transmission. Thus, in the municipality of Lagoa, there are five new cases, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada 12 new cases have been registered, the municipality of Ribeira Grande registers two new cases and there is one new case in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo.
The island of Pico registers two new cases, one in the municipality of Lajes and one in the municipality of San Roque, both travellers, non-residents, who tested positive on the 6th day.
The island of Faial also registers two new cases in the municipality of Horta, one of which is still to be assessed and the other concerns a non-resident traveller who tested positive on the 6th day. Also in the last 24 hours, 40 recoveries were registered (For detailed information on all recoveries in the archipelago please check the table Annex 2 at the end).
As of today, 13 patients are hospitalised, all at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada (with three in intensive care unit).
One of the cases reported previously, provided documentation demonstrating a previous infection and recovery, and is no longer considered an active case in the Region.
In the course of the epidemiological investigation, it was verified that two positive cases, initially allocated in the parishes of Terra Chã and Santa Luzia in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, are residing in the parish of Porto Martins, municipality of Praia da Vitoria, so the data in the attached tables reflect this change.
The archipelago currently has 444 active positive cases: 289 on the island of São Miguel, 119 on the island of Terceira, 11 on the island of Pico, nine on the island of São Jorge, eight on the island of Faial, seven on the island of Flores and one on the island of Graciosa. Nine primary local transmission chains are now active in the archipelago, with six on the island of Terceira, one on the island of São Jorge, one on the island of Faial and one between the islands of São Miguel and Flores. To date, 209 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 768 people under active surveillance today.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 7,162 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 6,537 people recovered from the disease. There were 35 deaths, 85 people who left the archipelago and 61 cases with history of previous cure.
To date, 621,142 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2, which causes covid-19 disease. From last 31 December 2020 until July 8, 250,705 doses of covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the Azores, with 129.190 people who received the first dose (53.21 % of the population) and 121.515 people with complete vaccination (50.05 %), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
