Azorean Government joins two new European energy projects - Communication

The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, through the Regional Directorate for Energy, is part of the consortium for two new projects co-financed by the European Union. They aim to promote energy transition by strengthening cooperation between the Macaronesia regions and West African countries.

The projects will be carried out under the INTERREG VI-D Madeira–Azores–Canary Islands (MAC) Territorial Cooperation Programme and, together, represent an investment of about €393,000 in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

The DeeRaMAC project – Decarbonisation, Energy Efficiency and Resilience of Energy Systems in Macaronesia and West Africa has a budget of over €197,000 for the Region. It aims to promote energy efficiency, decarbonisation and the resilience of energy systems in partner territories.

With a view to achieving these goals, the project aims to develop and validate tools, technologies and demonstration pilot projects that support the integration of renewable energy sources, the optimisation of power grids, the creation of renewable energy communities and the adoption of innovative solutions, including alternative fuels such as biogas.

The DeeRaMAC consortium brings together organisations from the Azores, the Canary Islands, Senegal, Cape Verde and Ghana.

Meanwhile, the AtlanticHub0 – Zero Footprint project addresses the common challenge faced by Macaronesian and African regions in meeting climate neutrality targets by promoting the decarbonisation of small and medium-sized enterprises in island and outermost regions.

With a budget of over €195,000 for the Azores, the project aims to foster a shared culture of measuring, reducing and offsetting carbon footprints by providing accessible tools, training initiatives and specialised technical support to businesses.

The AtlanticHub0 consortium comprises organisations from the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Mauritania, Senegal and Ghana.

The participation of the Regional Directorate for Energy in these projects reinforces the Azorean Government’s commitment to energy transition, climate action and international cooperation. It will contribute to implementing innovative solutions that promote a more sustainable, resilient and competitive economy.
