Artur Lima highlights success of regional strategy for attracting investment and developing digital economy
Vice-Presidência do Governo Regional
The Vice-President of the Regional Government, Artur Lima, chaired today the opening ceremony of Jolera's new facilities at NONAGON - São Miguel Science and Technology Park, in Lagoa.
The Vice-President of the Government emphasised that "the opening of these new facilities demonstrates that the Regional Government's strategy of attracting investment and investing in the digital economy is delivering solid results."
Artur Lima pointed out that the multinational information technology company chose the Azores "aware of our privileged location and the competitive advantages" offered by the Region.
"We are demonstrating that it is possible, from an Autonomous Region in the middle of the Atlantic, to manage critical infrastructures and ensure the cybersecurity of companies based in Toronto, New York or London," he said.
"For this Government, every square metre we open today represents real opportunities," the government official stated, adding that young Azoreans "do not need to leave to pursue their professional ambitions in the field of technology."
In this regard, "Jolera is today one of the Azores' greatest allies in fighting the 'brain drain,'" stressed the Vice-President.
Artur Lima also noted that the Canadian company's expansion is a "seal of quality" for NONAGON, contributing to its consolidation as a support infrastructure for science and technology and as a space where knowledge is transformed into economic value.
At the end of his speech, the Vice-President of the Government reiterated the Regional Government's commitment to creating favourable conditions for investment and business development in the Azores.
"You can count on the Regional Government to continue promoting an ecosystem that rewards merit, innovation and entrepreneurship," he assured.
"We want Jolera to continue growing with us, serving as a beacon for other companies looking for a haven for investment," emphasised Artur Lima.
"I hope that we will soon open a new space in Terceira and that Jolera will be a beacon for other companies to set up in the Azores, not only in São Miguel and Terceira but also on the nine islands, as we have the conditions for that," concluded the Vice-President.
Jolera, a company operating in the cybersecurity and infrastructure management sectors, has been present in the Azores since 2022, where it currently employs 42 people.
