Azores take over CPRM Vice-Presidency for Energy
Vice-Presidência do Governo Regional
The Autonomous Region of the Azores takes over the Vice-Presidency for Energy of the Commission of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) as of today, July 4.
During the CPMR Political Bureau meeting held in The Hague, Netherlands, Artur Lima, Vice-President of the Regional Government, was unanimously elected Vice-President for Energy.
Upon assuming this position, the Vice-President of the Government will play a key role in the CPMR, leading the Political Bureau's discussions on the energy sector and providing political guidance and a broad vision to inspire the organisation's agenda. It will also report to the Political Bureau on activities and goals achieved in this field, promote the exchange of effective practices and experiences among its members, and ensure the CPMR's representation with other institutions and at high-level events on energy matters.
"It is with great honour and a sense of responsibility that I assume this position at the CPMR, at a time when energy matters are increasingly present in political discussions and in what is intended for the future of Europe," stated Artur Lima on the occasion of his election.
In addressing key issues for the CRPM, such as hydrogen, renewable energy sources, system integration and industrial transformation, "the Azores are positioning themselves in a decisive forum for policy-making at a EU level."
"This is another opportunity to convey, within our spheres, not only the existing knowledge and priorities of the Region but also the expectations and specificities of the Outermost Regions," emphasised the Vice-President.
The CPMR brings together more than 150 regions from 24 countries, representing more than 200 million people. It serves as a forum for discussion, promotion and advocacy for more cohesive and balanced territorial development, not only across Europe but also in neighbouring and partner regions.
This organisation develops its initiatives in key areas such as cohesion policy, maritime affairs and blue growth, transport and accessibility, energy, climate change, migration, neighbourhood and development, and European governance.
