The Autonomous Region of the Azores and IROA, S.A. (Regional Institute of Agrarian Planning) have already signed the 2025 programme contract, amounting to 7.25 million Euros. This amount represents the largest investment made in the last decade and a half, demonstrating the Regional Government's commitment to developing and modernising the Region's agricultural sector.
This contract programme aims to implement the actions set out in the Annual Regional Plan, with a special focus on the initiatives included in Programme 7 - Rural Economy and Food.
This involves, for example, boosting strategic investments in key areas for the agricultural sector, namely in water supply and electrification, increasing the investment in the network of agricultural roads, and improving agricultural reparcelling and land structuring.
These actions aim to increase the agricultural sector's sustainable growth and improve the quality of life of Azorean farmers.
These infrastructures represent a fundamental basis for the archipelago's development, with a direct impact on productivity and the promotion of sustainability and growth of agricultural activity. These are key elements for consolidating the Azores' rural economy.
This amount demonstrates the ongoing commitment of IROA, S.A. to ensuring the efficient implementation and completion of important agricultural infrastructure works for the Region.
The financial boost provided by this contract programme will help IROA, S.A. reiterate its commitment to supporting Azorean farmers. This will enable it to move forward with fundamental projects to improve farmers' living conditions and infrastructures throughout the archipelago.
"In addition, it will contribute to territorial cohesion and the economic development of the various islands while also rejuvenating the sector, with a focus on creating a more prosperous and sustainable future for the Azores," stressed António Ventura, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture.
