Investments in mobility and housing boost Madalena's development, highlights José Manuel Bolieiro
Presidência do Governo Regional
The Regional Government, led by José Manuel Bolieiro, began its statutory visit to the island of Pico today. The programme focused on the commitment to the partnership between the Regional Government and local authorities.
The first meeting was held with Catarina Manito, Mayor of Madalena, to discuss strategic initiatives for the municipality's development.
Among the projects highlighted was the creation of a new ring road to the town of Madalena, a project intended to improve road traffic management and open up "opportunities" for future developments.
"This is an example of how the government is working side by side with municipalities, promoting mobility and solutions for growth and territorial development in a balanced and fair distribution between all the islands of the Azores," noted José Manuel Bolieiro.
Increasing the housing supply in the municipality is another priority.
According to the President of the Government, land has already been identified for future housing developments, which could meet the population's needs.
"We are working to ensure that the municipality of Madalena has the conditions for sustainable growth, with affordable housing for families," he said.
Health was a significant focus of the agenda, ensuring improvements to the Madalena Health Centre.
The installation of the air conditioning system is in progress, securing optimal conditions for the operation of this unit.
The statutory visit, which runs until Thursday, also includes a meeting of the Island Council, meetings with the municipalities of São Roque do Pico and Lajes do Pico, and initiatives promoted by various Regional Government departments.
José Manuel Bolieiro reiterated his commitment to supporting the balanced development of all Azorean islands, emphasising the role of local government as an essential partner.
"We are building a future based on specific solutions and in close collaboration with local authorities, as this is the only way to achieve cohesive development for the entire Region," he concluded.
