The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, received the São Miguel Island Council at an audience held today. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange greetings and deliver a document containing proposals aimed at boosting strategic areas such as health, education and training, the economy, solidarity and security.
The head of the Azorean Government emphasised the importance of Island Councils as fundamental tools of participatory democracy, stressing their independent role and significant contribution to the Region's development.
"The dialogue and consultation we maintain with the Island Councils reflects an increasingly rich and participatory Azorean society, where different voices and perspectives have room to be heard and contribute to practical solutions," stated José Manuel Bolieiro.
The Bureau of the Island Council, in conjunction with other members, has decided to move forward with the creation of working groups to develop specific proposals for São Miguel Island, focusing on the vectors highlighted in the document delivered to the government. These groups aim to deepen the assessment of local needs and present solutions to the challenges faced by the island of São Miguel.
The President of the Regional Government concluded by stressing that the willingness to "dialogue" and the effort to "reach an agreement" with the Island Councils not only value these institutions but also promote the social and economic growth of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
"This is the way to continue building an Azorean society that stands out for its inclusion, progress and ability to unite towards common goals," he said.
