Precautionary management implemented to extend alfonsino fishing season
Secretaria Regional do Mar e das Pescas
In view of the current catch records for alfonsino (Beryx decadactylus), and with a view to better managing the catch limits for this year, the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for the Sea and Fisheries, has decided to reduce the maximum catch limits for this species, per fishing journey, for all local and inshore fishing vessels registered in regional ports.
Local fishing vessels will be able to catch 30 kilos of alfonsino per fishing trip, while coastal fishing vessels can catch a total of 70 kilos.
The decision, already published in the Official Journal, was taken after consultation with the Azores Fisheries Federation and the associations representing the regional fishing fleet.
The decision was taken considering the consumption of the quota for 2024 and with a view to ensuring precautionary management that allows the fishing of this stock to be extended to the months when it is most valued.
