Social response provided to users of Faial private nursing home closing today
Secretaria Regional da Saúde e Segurança Social
The Regional Government, in partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Horta, will provide immediate support from today to seven of the 14 elderly people living in the private nursing home on the island of Faial, whose owner has decided to close it down.
Users and families who have been unable to find a solution in the face of this constraint have now seen this situation solved.
Providing a response to the needs of this target public and their families, and according to the assessment carried out on all the nursing home users by the Institute for Social Security of the Azores and the Integrated Continuing Care Network, the Regional Government has committed to funding, as a social emergency, the immediate response to seven cases by accommodating five elderly people in the Residential Structure for the Elderly and another two in the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Horta Integrated Care Network. As for the other users, no intervention was necessary as the families had previously found an alternative.
The Regional Government acknowledged the serenity and resilience of the families involved in the effort to solve the situation, praising the willingness and commitment of Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Horta in creating this solution. It made it possible to safely place all users of this nursing home and support their families. This was also an opportunity for the Government to renew its commitment to continue working diligently to improve the services and responses provided to the Azoreans in this area.
