The Regional Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport, Sofia Ribeiro, announced that she will begin a round of meetings with the education council of each school establishment in the Region to assess "the degree of bureaucracy considered unnecessary."

The head of Education explained that many of these dynamics are related to "long-standing practices" and are "considered necessary by centralised directives," although there are no "regulations defining them."

For Sofia Ribeiro, "working closely with each school establishment" is necessary to "assess which procedures are perceived as more bureaucratic and the level of responsibility for their definition" so that "more effective procedures" can be determined.

"In this new term, we intend to continue the process of reducing bureaucracy in education, which began in the previous term," she said.

In addition to "simplifying communication and coordination procedures with school establishments," especially regarding "statistical procedures and the preparation of the school year," the Regional Secretary recalled that "legislative amendments have been made to the Legal Scheme on the Creation, Autonomy and Management of School Establishments and the Regulations for the Administrative and Educational Management of Students," so as to "reduce bureaucracy in schools."

"We are aware that there are still several procedures that could be streamlined and simplified, not only at a central level but, above all, in terms of the internal working dynamics of each school," she said.
