The Azores Transport Plan (PTA 2030), which contains the main lines of action of the Regional Government for this sector until 2030, has been approved by the European Commission.

Financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), one of the main financial instruments of the European Union's cohesion policy, this programme is specifically aimed at "developing and consolidating sustainable, climate-resilient, smart and intermodal mobility at a national, regional and local level, including improving access to the TEN-T and cross-border mobility."

For the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, this "is a structuring document for the future of transport in the Region," in addition to enabling a comprehensive planning process that will make it possible to apply for EU funds through the Azores 2021-2027 programme.

With the Plan approved, the inter-island public service obligations were immediately applied under Specific Goal RSO3.2 (Developing and consolidating sustainable, climate-resilient, smart and intermodal mobility at a national, regional and local level, including improving access to the TEN-T and cross-border mobility[ERDF]), corresponding to an investment of 53 million Euros out of a total of 58 million Euros available under this axis.

Berta Cabral defended that this instrument, drawn up by the Regional Government, defines the priorities for medium and long-term strategic infrastructural investments in the mobility and transport sectors, including road, port and airport infrastructures, mobility and public transport.
