Applications for studies on wine sector open until end of July, recalls António Ventura - Communication

The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, António Ventura, recalled this weekend during the Wine in Azores event that the applications for support to studies on the "perception of the future reality" of the wine production on various islands are open until July 31.

"The idea is to conduct studies on the advantages of this agricultural activity, so that producers may know if the business is profitable before moving forward. Each island is unique, there are no identical islands. This is our wealth, which creates specificities at various levels. These studies will allow us to know in advance if the business is feasible or not," said the government official.

"I challenge associations and producers to apply," stressed the Regional Secretary.

During the event, held on the island of Terceira, António Ventura stressed that "talking about wine is talking about history, heritage, tasting, but above all" it is also discussing "the economic and social future" of the Azores.

"Wine production is flourishing rapidly in the Azores," he said, noting that there was a "record export of certified wines" in 2022, a total of 62 thousand litres. In the first quarter of this year, the figure registered was also a record: 17 thousand litres between January and March.

"We need to assert ourselves in the markets and create consistency in the associations and producers," he said.
