The IV International Workshop on Natural Hazards, under the theme "Geotechnical Risks" will be held at Teatro Faialense, on the island of Faial, Azores.

The Azores, a Portuguese archipelago situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean,

 

They are known for their stunning natural beauty and impressive volcanic landscapes.

Faial Island, also known as the Blue Island, is 19.8 kilometers long and 14 kilometers wide. Its 173.1 km2 area has a roughly pentagonal contour. It is the third most inhabited island of the archipelago, with 14,994 residents (2011 data).

It is part of the Central Group and is the westernmost point of the so-called ‘triangle islands’, together with São Jorge and the island of Pico, from which it is only 6 km away. 

Travel and accommodation - Important Notice

It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to NatHaz25 on the island of Faial, Azores.

 

However, there is an urgent matter that needs your attention.

 

 

The occupancy rates of accommodation in Faial are reaching exceptionally high levels. This high demand may quickly exhaust the availability of rooms and flights.

We call on all participants to make their accommodation and travel reservations well in advance to avoid possible future constraints.

Post-workshop technical visit

 

In addition to the technical visit that will take place on 24 October on the island of Faial (which is included in the workshop), a technical visit after the workshop is scheduled for the island of Pico on 25 October.

This technical visit, which will take in some of the island's main points of interest, costs 75 € and includes boat transport between Faial and Pico as well as lunch.

Please note that this visit will only take place with a minimum of 10 participants.
