Presidência do Governo Regional
The first statutory visit of the XIV Government of the Azores to the island of Santa Maria began today, with the members of the government meeting with the Vila do Porto council in the morning.
For the President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, this was a moment to emphasise the ‘commitment to cooperation’ that has been developed between the Regional Government and the Vila do Porto Town Council on matters such as housing, water supply for farmers, pavement of roads and coastal protection.
Regarding the work carried out by the Azorean Government on the island of Santa Maria, the President of the Government assured that it is "enhancing the installed capacity" gradually and progressively, and "promoting a strategic vision" of the future for the Azorean economy and, in particular, for the island of Santa Maria.
Speaking to journalists, he stressed the importance of leveraging the installed airport capacity to boost the Space Technology Centre, which projects the Azores in Europe and the world.
José Manuel Bolieiro also stressed the importance of "promoting Santa Maria in terms of its strategic positioning and the capacity it has in terms of infrastructures," mentioning Santa Maria airport and the fair demand from ANA/Vinci for its full operation.
"We will ensure that this matter remains within the reach of our powers of intervention and influence," added the President of the Government.
